Jimmy's Quick Lunch

About us

Jimmy's Quick Lunch has been admired for its enduring legacy and unmistakable charm. Founded with a simple vision of serving quality meals at fair prices, this historic eatery has become a treasured part of the community's cultural and culinary fabric.

Founded by James “Jimmy” George in 1937 under the original name J.G. Quick Lunch. George was in his teens when his family sent him to the United States from Greece where he began working in restaurants, from busing tables in New York City to owning his own hot dog business under the boardwalk in Atlantic City, where he created his famous hot dog chili recipe that is still used to this day. It was there he met the love of his life, Adelaine, sold his business and relocated to Northeast PA.

George worked at a Greek restaurant in Scranton then moved on to the Coney Island in Hazleton where he worked for 10 years. The employees went on strike and, needing to provide for his family, George started his own restaurant, J.G. Quick Lunch, in 1937, just 2 doors down from where Jimmy's is today. Not only did he provide for his family, but he left a legacy and tradition that continues to be passed down through the next generations.

“We're here to make a living, not a killing.” – Jimmy George motto. George's philosophy focused on creating delicious meals at affordable prices so everyone can enjoy dining out. Nearly every recipe savored at Jimmy's is the original with subtle hints from each successive generation.

The restaurant was passed down to George's daughter Catherine and her husband Leo. Succeeding them was their son, George's grandson, Jimmy, who has managed the business the longest of the generations. Today, in its fourth generation, the business is run by Jimmy's niece, George's great granddaughter, Amanda. Jimmy's granddaughter also works at the family restaurant, making it five generations strong.

The restaurant's atmosphere is filled with a sense of nostalgia, where chrome stools, vintage counters, and cheerful service create a dining experience that feels both familiar and refreshing. Jimmy's Quick Lunch continues to be recognized as a place where tradition, quality, and community spirit are beautifully preserved through every bite.
